Practical Magic 2: Sandra Bullock & Nicole Kidman Return as the Owens Sisters – Everything We Know
In the original Practical Magic, Bullock played Sally Owens, while Kidman portrayed her adventurous sister Gillian Owens. The story followed the sisters as they navigated family magic, romance, curses and the complicated bond between two sisters.
Although the 1998 movie initially received a mixed reception, it eventually developed a devoted cult following. That passionate fan base helped keep the dream of another Practical Magic alive.
Now, Sally and Gillian are returning to the screen—and this time, the magical Owens family is bigger.
🌙 What Is Practical Magic 2 About?
The sequel takes place years after the original story and continues the adventures of the Owens women. Sally and Gillian once again have to confront supernatural challenges while protecting their family.
The film is inspired by Alice Hoffman's The Book of Magic, and the story focuses on the Owens family's next generation. Joey King and Maisie Williams join the cast as Sally's daughters, bringing a younger generation of witches into the story.
🧙♀️ The Original Aunts Are Returning Too
Fans have another reason to celebrate. Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest are returning as the eccentric Owens aunts, Frances and Jet.
Their return brings an extra dose of nostalgia and reconnects the sequel with the magical family that audiences first met in 1998.
The new cast also includes Lee Pace, Xolo Maridueña and Solly McLeod, giving the magical world some fresh faces.
💜 Sisterhood Is Still at the Heart of the Story
One of the biggest reasons Practical Magic became so beloved is that it was never only about spells and supernatural mysteries.
At its heart, the story was about sisterhood, family, love and finding strength together.
That same theme remains important in the sequel. At the London premiere, Bullock and Kidman spoke about continuing the relationship between their characters while passing the story to a new generation.
🕯️ The Magic Is Bigger Than Ever
The new movie promises to bring back the atmosphere that made the original so memorable: candles, mysterious spells, family secrets, romance, humor and a little bit of supernatural chaos.
Warner Bros.' official trailer describes the sisters as facing a dark curse that threatens their family.
🎬 When Can Fans See Practical Magic 2?
The movie begins its international theatrical rollout on September 9, 2026, with the North American release scheduled for September 11, 2026.
That makes September a perfect month for fans who love nostalgic movies, supernatural stories and a little witchy fun.
