Sabrina Carpenter to Play Ginger Rogers

Sabrina Carpenter is set to portray legendary dancer Ginger Rogers.

One of the biggest pieces of the latest casting news is Sabrina Carpenter's role as Ginger Rogers.

Rogers became famous for her celebrated screen partnership with Fred Astaire. The pair first appeared together in Flying Down to Rio in 1933 and later worked together on several classic Hollywood musicals. Their collaborations became an important part of the golden age of American movie musicals.

For Carpenter, the role represents another major step in her acting career. Although she is now internationally known for her music, she began acting at a young age and has appeared in projects including Girl Meets World, Tall Girl, Clouds and Emergency.

Her retro-inspired musical image also makes the Ginger Rogers casting particularly interesting for fans who enjoy classic Hollywood style.

Tom Holland as Fred Astaire

Tom Holland will play Fred Astaire in the upcoming Sony Pictures movie.

Tom Holland will portray Fred Astaire, one of the most recognizable dancers and performers in Hollywood history.

The role also connects with Holland's own background in dance and musical theatre. Before becoming globally famous as Spider-Man, Holland played Billy Elliot in London's West End production of Billy Elliot the Musical from 2008 to 2010.

Holland has previously discussed preparing for the demanding dance sequences. He has indicated that he wants to approach Astaire's dancing seriously and has been training for the role.

That makes the upcoming Tom Holland Fred Astaire movie especially interesting because the actor already has professional stage-dance experience.

Margaret Qualley Joins as Adele Astaire

Margaret Qualley will portray Fred Astaire's sister and dance partner Adele Astaire.

Margaret Qualley will play Adele Astaire, Fred Astaire's older sister and original dance partner.

Fred and Adele performed together before Fred became one of Hollywood's biggest stars. Their professional partnership included work on Broadway and London's West End.

The film is based on Kathleen Riley's biography The Astaires: Fred & Adele, meaning Adele's career is expected to be an important part of the story rather than simply a supporting detail.
